At our first meeting, I always ask my clients what it is they love about their space and what it is they hate about their space. So many times their response is that they have simply "hit a wall" with their decorating. I've learned over the years the importance of having a clear design vision in place right from the get-go to avoid hitting that dreaded wall. So, whether you're looking for a bit of a refresh, you're starting a big renovation or you're finishing up a new build, my goal is to get you excited about your space again by providing a fresh and new design perspective.
My signature style is a more relaxed take on modern luxury. Clean, crisp, bright and airy with lots of texture and natural elements for added comfort and coziness. Your surroundings have a lot of power over your mood and emotions so harnessing that power can be a truly life changing experience. This is why I feel so passionate about interior design. I love creating beautiful spaces that, simply put, make people feel good. That moment when a client walks into their new room and something happens inside of them that makes them feel perfectly at home.
My journey into home decor started over 15 years ago. After graduating from OCAD University with a Bachelor of Design I took a job working alongside Joseph Mimran as a product designer for his prestigious home decor line. This opened my eyes to a world of ceramics and textiles and art that I had never truly explored before. I dove right in and never looked back. Home decor has been my passion ever since.
After working as a product designer for numerous retailers over the years, and after I had my first child, I decided to take the plunge and start my own home staging business. In September of 2017, Mint Condition Staging was born and coincidentally, a month later I discovered I was pregnant with my second child. I loved the new challenges I faced as a new entrepreneur and mom and it didn't take long for me to discover that this was my calling. I did however, have a lingering feeling that home staging was not the only thing for me, and I was right.
Over and over again, clients began asking me to design their new home after I had staged their property for resale and I was more than happy to do it. Each design job resulted in more referrals and eventually snowballed to the point where I was doing more design work than actual staging. So much so, that I felt the need to expand my business and launch Amanda Shields Interiors as its own entity to focus specifically on residential interiors and design.
Amanda's work has been featured in Canadian Home Trends magazine numerous times and she has won Best of Houzz for her exceptional service 2 years in a row. She has also made several guest appearances on the Marc & Mandy show as a featured design expert.
